What is Otoplasty?

Sometimes, with our friends, family or colleagues can arise comments and jokes of our body parts that may have a defect.

One of the most common areas for this kind of jokes are the ears because sometimes children are born with larger ears or some other condition that makes them targets of attacks and taunts during their childhood and adolescence.

Fortunately to correct these problems, aesthetic medicine has had enough progress, taking to market innovative techniques.

Precisely one of these techniques is otoplasty, which is commonly called “ear surgery”, in which the patient is treated to reposition prominent ears or protruding from the head to a more normal position, that is, closer to the head or to reduce the size of the ears. It is also widely used to correct the elongated lobes.

It is usually applied in children, and since their ears have grown almost entirely at the age of 4, there is no problem with doing it. But it is also possible to do in adults, without any associated risk.

The first thing we do as specialists is the evaluation of the patient, where we can determine the best treatment or more effective technique, we can also give instructions for the time of the process.

After that, we proceed with the technique, where we will try to give it the best look, more natural and alike, and so both ears so are symmetrical. Besides, there won’t be any visible scars.

Regarding the care after the process, it’s nothing out of the ordinary, but we do need that you don’t make sudden movements in the area, to try keeping the ears in their new form and to have a successful recovery.
