In the last few years, the Papanicolaou Test has significantly reduced the number of deceased women from cervical cancer, since it can help to detect and remove the cancerous cells right on time.
The Papanicolaou Test is a hopeful procedure, if we consider that cervical cancer is a silent killer that stalks women of all ages, from the moment they start having sexual intercourse until they reach the old age.
The fact that makes this deadly disease even more frightening is that this silent killer usually shows no symptoms in the early stages, and it doesn’t get noticed until the cancer has spread and the woman starts feeling pelvic pains, abnormal bleeding, and urinary problems.
To prevent any kind of risks or to detect the precancerous symptoms or cancer in its early stages, it is highly recommended that all women should take the Papanicolaou Test at least once a year.
The most common reason for the malignant cancerous cells to start developing in cervical tissues is the human papillomavirus (or HPV); and a human life can depend on its early detection.
It is possible – and this is what usually happens – that the woman isn’t suffering from any kind of medical condition. The discomfort can be the result of another kind of infection that is less frightening and more easily treatable. But, if the symptoms of cancer are present, you should immediately start the treatment.
It is important to remember that cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women that kills slowly, but that it is also one of the most preventable and treatable types of cancer.
